Amazon is permanently closing eight of its 29 Amazon Go storefronts, where customers could shop without any visible store checkout. This was reported by the US broadcaster CNN on its website on Monday, 6.3.2023.
Online retailer Amazon had started its Go store in Seattle in 2016, promoting the new concept as the future of shopping. Just walk into the store, pick merchandise off shelves, and leave: that was the customer experience. But with expectations not met, the closure is another sign of cost-cutting measures. The six remaining open stores will close on April 1. That leaves 21 Amazon Go stores and two locations in New York, which the company shares with Starbucks.
