New EU Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)

The new EU Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) replaces the previous Directive 2001/95/EC and will bring comprehensive changes to product safety law from December 13, 2024. Manufacturers, distributors and importers of consumer products will be particularly affected, as they will have to ensure that their products comply with the new regulations from this date.

In particular, the GPSR requires a thorough risk assessment and extended information obligations. This includes that product information such as the name and contact details of the manufacturer as well as clear product identification must be available directly in the offer. This regulation applies to both B2B and B2C transactions and affects all products that are not already specifically regulated by other EU standards. The new distance selling regulations must also be observed for regulated products. The aim is to ensure a uniform safety standard for all products in the EU.
