Just when companies decide to join a trend, it is already over or outdated.

But one trend that is here to stay is offering European payment methods in online stores. Sooner or later, the business should also expand beyond its own national borders. It is important to address international customers and ensure that the joint journey does not end in the middle of the checkout process.

MolliePay: tapping into the European shopping market in Smartstore

Whether common payment methods such as Apple Pay, PayPal, credit/debit card or country-specific methods such as iDEAL, Belfius Pay and eps. With the integration of MolliePay in Smartstore, there are no limits to the international processing of B2B and B2C orders. In the following sections, we show how store operators can make their own store fit for pan-European sales without much effort.

Link your own Smartstore store with MolliePay

  1. To use the MolliePay functions in Smartstore, store operators need to access the navigation menu. Go to Plugins > Manage plugins and users to get to the Upload plugin option. The MolliePay plugin can be selected and clicked on Upload & Install to add it to the plugin list. If the plugin is not displayed there, refresh the list.


  2. After clicking on Install, the plugin is available in the store. MolliePay is listed under Configuration > Payment methods. In this area, store owners can activate or deactivate the plugin.



  3. The individual Live API key can be entered under Configure. To access this, store owners must log in at https://my.mollie.com/dashboard/login?Lang=en.



  4. At the same time, this step offers the option of activating the booked payment options in the Smartstore backend.


Test the optimized checkout process

Next, check whether the plugin is working properly in your store. To do this, you have the option of performing a test payment with MolliePay using the test API key.

  1. Add any product from your store to the shopping cart and simulate a purchase by going to the checkout. Select the MolliePay payment method under the Payment step.


  2. Select the checkbox.


  3. In the next step, you will be redirected to the Mollie checkout. There you will see the order amount and the test payment instructions. The order is now displayed in the store backend under Sales > Orders.

  4. As a store operator, you can also edit the status of the order manually here.
